 Tools and Libs > Commons Lang3 > Strings > Default If Empty

Default If Empty

Apache Commons Lang 3.0 is a java library with lot of utilities and reusable components. This requires the library commons-lang3-3.0.1.jar to be in classpath. The following example shows using StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty() API. It returns default string if the given string is empty or null, otherwise returns the same string back.

File Name  :
com/bethecoder/tutorials/commons_lang/tests/strings/DefaultIfEmptyTest.java
Author  :  Sudhakar KV
Email  :  [email protected]

package com.bethecoder.tutorials.commons_lang.tests.strings;

import org.apache.commons.lang3.StringUtils;

public class DefaultIfEmptyTest {

  /**
   @param args
   */
  public static void main(String[] args) {
      //StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty(String str, String defaultStr)
    System.out.println(StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty(null, "N/A"));
    System.out.println(StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty("""N/A"));
    System.out.println(StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty("   ""N/A"));
    System.out.println(StringUtils.defaultIfEmpty("java""N/A"));
  }

}

It gives the following output,
N/A
N/A

java
